The AI Remix Culture

The power of AI is its 'remixability.' AI remixes our knowledge, the work of others, and business models. This remix culture is now available for the rest of us.

Remix culture takes an idea and reimagines it. This is commonplace in hip-hop, Tumblr blogging, and art. Even Little Drummer Boy is being remixed with Flo Rida!

Tech has long had a culture of remixing. Open-source builders create and share. These creations are then forked, meaning builders make a copy and then put their own spin on it.

This culture was off-limits for the rest of us. Without a technical background, open-source was open but inaccessible.

AI, however, is created with language. We can now fork, customize, and build the same way we rhyme, rap, and riff with friends,

The power of AI is its remixability. Thanks to AI, remix culture is now available for all of us. Let’s make your first remix in this post.

AI Remixing Our Knowledge

AI remixes our knowledge. You can add files or throw a bunch of data at AI, and it helps make sense of it. It resurfaces key details and makes new connections.

Suddenly, all those notes you took are incredibly valuable. The best part? They don’t have to be organized.

One of the best use cases for AI is sending a bunch of ideas and asking it to organize it for you. It is still your ideas and voice, but it saves time connecting threads. I do this from my sauna with a simple voice memo as this FiveMin.AI shares.

Let’s try it out.

The tutorial above walks through how to send voice notes to a blog with AI. Record a voice memo on your phone and use AI to organize it for you.

AI Remixes the Work of Others

English is the language of AI. This makes it easy to learn how use AI from others. Prompts - the questions and text given to an AI - can be used and tweaked to change the outcome. Small changes can remix an AI tool to better apply to a specific industry or use case.

Experience Institute is a great example. They recently created an AI tutor using Chipp that gives participants a preview of their design thinking workshop. Prior to launch, they created their first version of their design thinking bot Zeze and shared the prompt on a Google doc with the team. The team made edits and additions based on their results. Through multiple rounds of collaborative edits, they create an AI tool that captures their personality and work. You can try it out here.

I especially loved how they integrated it with their website, making their remix a direct callback to their core business.

In 2024, I imagine businesses and communities increasingly gathering their knowledge, remixing it with AI, and sharing their specific expertise with their community and potential members or customers. Chipp is a bet on this exact future.

Remix the Work of Others

Let’s try it out.

I recently created an AI tutor that helps students create projects for the subject they’re studying. In my example, 6th graders create projects about Aztec history.

You can take this entire AI tutor, add it to your free Chipp account, and modify it for any age or subject. This video will show you how.

AI Remixes Business Models

Software is built with code. That code is the intellectual property of the creator. The value of software is based on this foundational building block of code.

AI is built with a prompt. This prompt is created with natural language and is nearly impossible to protect. Anyone using an AI tool can ask for details on its prompt and piece together how to remix a similar version.

This is forcing a rethink of business models.

Outside of the large language model creators, AI companies need to embrace the remix culture. The value for AI companies is not their prompt but everything around it. A traditional SaaS model, where software is built once and sold twice (or 2,000 more times) should be combined with the remix culture that encourages building and sharing.

AI companies, like Chipp, should be focusing on integrating with AI, adding features to AI tools, making it easy to find and remix AI prompts, and creating an ecosystem of supportive AI builders.

Remix Your Business Model

Let’s try it out.

Instead of hoarding your beautiful AI creations, let’s share it to demonstrate expertise.

Chipp creates an ecosystem of builders who can share their prompts and GPTs. Now you can do the same.

Visit the Chipp Prompt Library. Add your prompt to the database so others can remix your ideas.

It’s Time to Remix

Chipp is excited to embrace this remix culture in 2024. None of us is as smart or creative as all of us.

Now, thanks to AI, this remix culture is available for all of us.
